Temporomandibular joints are located on each side of your head and are joints that work with the muscles and ligaments in your face and head. When these joints are injured, you could end up with TMJ pain or temporomandibular disorders, or TMD. That is just a way of saying that the TM joint is injured, not working properly, and causing symptoms.
