Triage Mistakes In The Hospital Emergency Room Could Result In Medical Malpractice To Trauma Patients!

The point of an emergency room or emergency department is to treat seriously injured patients. This is particularly true of patients who have life threatening conditions or ailments, such as trauma like a car accident, stabbing, or gunshot, or patients suffering from a serious condition like a stroke, heart attack, appendicitis, or other condition.

If a hospital emergency room fails to promptly treat a very seriously injured patient, it can result in serious personal injuries or death. Sometimes this is not always easy to know when a patient is seriously injured or where a patient is just exaggerating or somewhat injured but not life threatening. Nonetheless, healthcare providers are tried to recognize this and to triage patients. They need to know how to get care to the proper patients when it is needed.

That is why when a patient goes to the emergency room or emergency department of a hospital and is not timely treated, that can be medical malpractice. The standard of care is for an emergency room to treat the patients as a normal emergency would under similar circumstances. Meaning, the healthcare providers need to act like an emergency room is expected to. While emergency rooms may not get every patient’s care correct, they need to do everything that is expected of them.

So when an emergency room does not do that, it can be medical malpractice. This is especially true for trauma patient who may have a very serious condition. If a gunshot wound patient is ignored in an emergency room, especially for a non-life threatening condition or patient, that gunshot wound victim may have a medical malpractice case if he or she ends up seriously worsened or even dies.

When patients have silent killers like heart attacks or strokes, healthcare professionals need to immediately check and recognize the signs. They are tried to know when patients are having this condition. If they do not treat the patient, it can be medical malpractice too.
