Pediatric Malpractice Is Very Dangerous And Devastating

As with other medical fields, pediatric medical care can result in mistakes even with the advancements in the medical profession. When a child has been the victim of medical malpractice, it can have devastating results to both the child and his or her parents. Pediatric malpractice or negligence can cause life-altering injuries to a child; resulting in consequences that can affect the child for the rest of their life. If the injury is especially serious, life-long expenses can result. The child may require expensive medical treatment, rehabilitative therapy and professional care, potentially for the rest of their lives. Should an innocent child be injured the child and their family’s lives could be forever changed and they should not have to carry that financial burden.

Pediatric medical care can be challenging to provide. Young children often cannot tell doctors what is wrong. Good pediatricians will listen to the parents of the child and understand their concerns. Pediatricians who do not listen to parents of their patients and, as a result, the child suffers and an injury, it may have been due to a pediatric error.

When treating a child there are numerous considerations to factor into their treatment so the child is provided with best and safest care possible. Pediatric errors can arise during any stage of a child’s development. Certain conditions, such as failure to diagnose cancer, appendicitis, meningitis, pneumonia and infection have been occurring more and more often. This can lead to serious injury and even death.

Most pediatric errors that occur are due to negligence or inadequate medical care by medical professionals. Common pediatric errors include:

• Delayed diagnosis
• Failure to diagnose a condition
• Improperly administering medication
• Providing incorrect dosage of medication
• Failure to provide medication

Pediatricians who have failed to recognize signs and symptoms of an illness, misdiagnose a medical condition, or utilize the wrong treatment may be held liable for the resulting injury. Oftentimes pediatric errors can lead to the condition becoming worse.

A child who endures an injury, life-altering disability or wrongful death resulting from a pediatric error can experience substantial emotional trauma. This trauma can be experienced by not just the child, but the child’s family as well.
