Cosmetic Surgery, Even If Elective, Can Result In Medical Malpractice

Surgery

There is a risk of complications and/or injury for most surgical procedures.  Plastic surgery is no exception.  More and more people in the United States are undergoing plastic surgery.  People often undergo these procedures to enhance their quality of life.

Despite the procedures being quite common now, there continues to be risks involved.  Many people may be severely injured after undergoing plastic surgery.  Botched surgeries can result in pain and disfigurement.  Regardless of the reasons for undergoing the procedure, no person deserves this outcome.

Plastic and cosmetic surgery errors may be the result of inexperience, negligence, substance abuse, and lack of proper training and education.  Some serious side effects of plastic surgery include:

  • Blindness
  • Blood clots
  • Brain damage
  • Death to skin
  • Deformities
  • Disfigurement
  • Excessive bleeding
  • Infection
  • Scarring

Most surgical procedures have many laws and policies to regulate them.  However, plastic surgery has a very loose set of regulations.  Due to this, this industry is full of false advertising, substandard facilities, and doctors who have dubious medical credentials.

Despite this, as with other types of surgeons, plastic surgeons need to exercise a high degree of medical competency when caring for and treating patients.  Failure to provide the level of skill, care, and treatment of a reasonable plastic surgeon under similar circumstances, and the patient is injured as a result, may be considered medical malpractice.

Injuries can occur as a result of botched plastic surgery procedures such as:

  • Breast implants
  • Eyelid surgery
  • Botox injections
  • Brow lifts
  • Cosmetic jaw or chin procedures
  • Facial implants
  • Face-lifts
  • Rhinoplasty
  • Tummy tucks
