Dutchess County Doctor Involved In Countless Medical Malpractice Suits
CasesDr. Spyros Panos, an orthopedic surgeon who practiced in Hopewell Junction, Fishkill and Poughkeepsie has been named in at least seven medical malpractice lawsuits, with many more to come. The Dutchess County doctor accused in 10 recent lawsuits of performing surgeries but intentionally not treating or improperly treating patients’ injuries.
Among the lawsuits are claims that the doctor performed unnecessary surgeries on patients without their consent. One patient agreed to one arthroscopic procedure only to learn that she actually underwent a total of six procedures while under anesthesia.
In another suit, a patient was told she had undergone shoulder reconstructive surgery, but when she was seen for a second opinion, her x-ray showed no evidence of a surgery being performed. Several additional patients have claimed to be victims of such “phantom surgeries” where a patient is placed under anesthesia but no procedure was actually performed.
Dr. Panos was fired from his position at Mid Hudson Medical Group “for not meeting [their] professional standards” and has voluntarily resigned his privileges to perform surgeries at Saint Francis Hospital and Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Medical malpractice attorneys in the Dutchess County area predict that a hundred suits will be filed against Dr. Panos before this is all over.
