Mistakes With Healing Broken Bones Can Lead To Serious Injury

Medical Malpractice Mistakes

When a patient has been harmed by a doctor, or other medical professional, who fails to perform his or her medical duties in a competent manner, that patient may be the victim of medical malpractice.  Medical mistakes can have devastating consequences.  Even when the patient has a common injury, he or she can still be the victim of medical malpractice.

One of the most common injuries that could possibly require immediate medical care but may not always be life-threatening are broken bones.  Serious health problems may result if a person is not provided with the appropriate treatment for their broken bones.  Additional health complications could result that would have been easily prevented otherwise.

Prompt and proper care must be provided by doctors once a patient has arrived at a hospital with a broken bone.  Failure of a doctor or nurse to provide proper treatment or diagnosis of a broken bone can result in tissue damage near the area of the broken bone and cause the patient to suffer.  The following problems can lead to the patient’s suffering:

  • Delayed diagnosis of the broken bone
  • Incorrect diagnosis of a broken bone
  • Improperly treating a bone fracture
  • Use of metal fracture treatment devices, potentially causing local tissue damage
  • Incorrectly providing pain medication or anesthesia
  • Not setting the bone properly
  • Failure to screen the medication history of the patient prior to prescribing the pain medication
