Here is a list of the most common hospital mistakes which can cause serious personal injury or wrongful death due to medical malpractice:

  • Delay in treatment – as noted above, when a patient having a heart attack is caused to sit and wait in the waiting room while suffering this medical emergency, it can result in serious and catastrophic personal injuries.  Delays in treating emergency patients is one of if not the largest type of medical malpractice;
  • Birth injuries – Anytime a baby or newborn is involved, so many things could go wrong which could result in serious personal injuries or the wrongful death.  Protecting again oxygen deprivation, brachial plexus injuries, cerebral palsy, and other injuries is imperative;
  • Medication or prescription errors – prescribing the wrong medication or causing an overdose is very serious medical malpractice and can cause the wrongful death of a patient;
  • Patient mixups – Wrong patient surgery and wrong site surgery can result in very serious mix ups and complications, causing significant injury;
  • Poor care and treatment – When some hospitals are so busy, they can rush procedures and care or treatment just to get on to the next patient.  This can result in poor healthcare which can cause serious personal injuries;
  • Early discharge – While hospital readmissions is one of the most expensive causes of healthcare, it can also be one of the deadliest cases of medical malpractice.  Patients prematurely sent home could be suffering from very serious health complications such as heart attacks, strokes, pulmonary embolisms, and other serious medical emergencies.  When they are sent home before the full and proper diagnosis can be made, it can result in the patient’s wrongful death;
  • Anesthesia errors – During a surgery, the anesthesia team and anesthesiologist are to ensure that you are properly anesthetized but also that you do not die due to lack of oxygen.  They perform incubation, which is ensure that a patient has a direct pathway to oxygen to their lungs.  This is to guarantee that a patient is able to breath during a surgery.  If this is not properly performed, it can result in serious and catastrophic injury or death.
