Spryos Panos Settlements Begin Paying Out: $140 Million Paid to Victims of New York Medical Malpractice

The horrible cases of New York medical malpractice with former Spryos Panos in Dutchess County has started to come to a conclusion.  There are 255 plaintiffs who have been seriously injured by his New York medical malpractice that left patients seriously injured, maimed, and even dead.  This malpractice case was resolved by several law firms, notably one firm handling most of the files.  The final arbitration amounts were determined by a National Arbitration and Mediation Panel which represented “total vindication for people who were lied to by Dr. Panos.”

However, there are apparently issues with each victim being completely compensation due to insufficient insurance coverage.  According to counsel, the Plaintiff cases have payouts ranging from $15,500 to $3.8 million.  The conduct includes a wide range of misconduct and medical malpractice, including negligent surgeries, unnecessary surgeries, and gross medical errors.  Some wrongful death victims died due to blood clots in the lungs after surgeries that should not have occurred or were excessive.  He was claimed to use patients as “human cash registers.”

There are also criminal claims against him.  He has claims for felony health care fraud for billing insurance companies for fraudulent procedures.  He is said to have run a multi-million dollar scheme to defraud insurance companies through false claims and unnecessary surgeries, procedures, and other actions.  He is facing health care fraud, wire fraud, and aggravated identify theft charges.

The New York medical malpractice that he committed was horrible and our Albany medical malpractice lawyer is shocked by the conduct.  It is just a horrific case which has affected so many people.  Even with 255 plaintiffs, which is a lot, each of those plaintiffs has family, friends, and/or coworkers which were all affected by the medical care and treatment that a patient received which was below the standard of care or seriously lacking.
