New York Medical Malpractice Causing Diffuse Axonal Traumatic Brain Injury

There are many different ways that a traumatic brain injury, or TBI, could be caused by New York medical malpractice.  Some of the most common ways that must people think about are through medication errors or surgical slip ups.  But these are not the only types of brain injuries that could be caused by New York medical malpractice.  One serious type is a diffuse axonal traumatic brain injury.  This is a very serious injury that is caused by the damage to the brain.

A diffuse axonal injury are injuries to the actual brain tissue.  This is when the head is violently whipped back and forth.  It causes tissue damage which shreds, rips, tears, and otherwise damages the brain tissue.  This is a damaging brain injury because it permanently can destroy pathways and connections that your brain as made.  It can also damage blood vessels and other parts of your brain which are important for functioning.  

There are many different ways that New York medical malpractice could cause a diffuse axonal traumatic brain injury.  This entail a violent back and forth motion.  This includes the following examples how it could happen:

  • Hospital fall;
  • Injury from bed transfer;
  • Wandering or elopement fall;
  • Injuries from ambulance crashes on the way to a hospital;
  • Abuse from medical staff, including violently shaking a patient;
  • Violent seizures; and 
  • Other causes.

A diffuse axonal injury is a very serious type of TBI.  It needs to be treated and carefully evaluated, and monitored.  A healthcare provider that fails to properly diagnose and treat a diffuse axonal traumatic brain injury could result in serious personal injuries due to this New York medical malpractice.
